Think you know everything about carbon monoxide?  This presentation by Fire Marshal Kathy Clay, from Jackson Hole Fire/EMS, will heighten your knowledge, awareness, and response considerations for CO alarm response.  This topic is one of two Chief Clay will be presenting at this year’s FDIC.

Kathy Clay began her quest into the fire world as a volunteer in 2002, inspired by the tragedy of 9/11 and a belief in the value of volunteerism. She served as a volunteer firefighter and EMT until 2006 when she accepted a full time position as a Fire Inspector for Jackson Hole Fire/EMS.

Kathy was mentored by then-Training Chief Willy Watsabaugh and former Fire Marshal Rusty Palmer who encouraged vigorous training at the National Fire Academy, helped her achieve numerous certifications, and guided her growth as a Fire Inspector. She was appointed Fire Marshal for the Town of Jackson and Teton County in November of 2011.  She is a member of the Governor’s Council on Fire & Electrical Safety, sits on the International Code Council Western Region Code Review Committee, serves as a board member of the Wyoming Council of Building Officials, is an executive board member of the International Association of Wildland Fire, serves on the Vision 20/20 Steering Committee, and is a member of the National Fire Protection Association 13R and 13D committee.

Her outspoken passion for firefighter safety is a common theme in her work and in her presentations. She has participated in think-tank conversations on the wildland urban interface and has published articles on this topic as well.

After joining the paid arena of the fire world, Kathy joined Civil Air Patrol as a volunteer and loves to fly above the Wyoming landscape. She enjoys riding her mule, Gus, in the back country of Wyoming and seeks to fill a freezer with lean organic elk every fall. Her motto is to have a little bit of fear every day and this quest is frequently fulfilled through her paid work, volunteer work, and atop a mule in the woods.
